friend of mine convinced me to get back into riding had a 2000 sxr600 when i stopped riding so i bought a 2004 sx viper es r with a 7/8" track and it absolutely sucks in deep snow . will going to a 1-3/4" x 121 be any better or do you have to go to a 136 to make a difference?
thanks tim

it will be 2 times better just changing out the track to a bigger lug. You can run up to a 1.75 lug with the stock 9 tooth drivers but youll need to remove the tunnel protectors and the front cooler guards. I personally like to use a 1.5 lug, seems to be a good balance of hook up and speed.

136 will make it even better and ride nicer as well as you span the bumps, but its not a neccesity

if i did the 136 with a 1.5" track is there any tunnel modifications that need to be done?

well of course youll need a tunnel extension kit, rail extensions and remove the tunnel protectors, and youll be good to go.

I agree with Don above, but getting wide skis is also critical IMO. You do have to work the 121 harder side to side than the 136 to keep it on top, but it is a lot of fun. I like the Yamaha Mtn Skis, but there are other great options including aftermarket skis.

A really nice upgrade is a 136 mono skid and 1.5 track. You get a much better ride on the trail as well. There are a few real detailed posts about this on this site.

I upgraded to a 136, 1.5" track and it is def better but still doesn't cut it in the deeper snow. I'm upgrading again to a 144x1.75 track. And many people have said go wider on the ski's. Haven't tried that yet.

I recently upgraded to a 1.75 and the Yamaha mountain skis on my 121. It totally made the sled for me. I had to go to an 8 tooth anti ratchet driver.

I was told mine are 8" wide. Haven't actually measured but they are wider than my buddies 7" c&a and a deeper keel also.
