Well I just got done fixing my sled and got to go for our last ride if the year. Sled was awesome. I got my best run before it happened. The 500 toped out at 93mph. Got to the road crossing and noticed my temp light was on. I was shocked I never seen it on before. Felt the likes and they were warm but not hot and heat exchangers were cold. I figured maybe the thermostat was stuck shut. So I had the skipoo tow me back ;(. While coming back we got to a hill that was all ice that some one just had to be stoped at the top of. After many tries getting the sleds up I hoped on the skipoo and put it to the bar. Well got up the hill but then there was a turn the rope came untied and the sled went right in to a tree. I started a thread about me and first rides of the season. Now it looks like I need one for the end of the season too. God dang it! I meant last ride in the title.

That is a bummer.....Sorry to hear that. Atleast YOU didn't get hurt, and that it was the end of the season.

This is very true. $hit happens. Now just trying to decide whether to fix it or part it out. It's pretty fixable but also got to figure out the over heating issue. Has to be either a thermostat or water pump. It's in need of a track too. Great. At least no one got hurt.

Update: I tore in to her a bit today and from what I can tell it's not to bad but is gonna take some work from what I can tell so far the
parts that need to be replaced are: left side trailing arm and control arms, left belly pan, mettle front sub frame and left gold color plate that is bolted to it, bumper, the hood I don't know the left side mount broke off the actual hood like in the pic, and what ever cause her to over heat. Also rivets and bolts but that's a given. What do you guys think??

what do you think thecost to fix it is? you can get a 600 or 700 sxr relatively cheap now, so it is a hard thing to decide

That's the hard part. I don't know. The two hard parts of fixing it is gona be the hood and the belly pan. Were the hood broke snapped flush and the belly pan is a lot of rivets. I can see up words of 300 bucks for just the front end but if I can't do any thing with the hood I'm screwed. Also got to find the sorce of the over heating has to be a thermostat or water pump not letting the coolent circulate. My thing is the motor just has so much left to it only having like 5370 or so. I'm just torn.

Awesome news guys. I was just working on the sled and got all the way to the water pump and pulled the first hose off and no coolent came out I knew exactly what happened. I climbed up uneder neath and my assumption was right. Stud went right through the cooler. I should have known. Just never saw any coolent leaking so I never even looked. Oh well. ;( god if it's not one thing it's a billion.

I would part it and get a 700. That's just me though, never a huge fan of the 500, and you are looking at some $$$ I think

Even an 01 sxr 700 would be a great sled. Low maintenance and smooth power

I repaired my control rods and trailing. I say buy some used stuff off here for cheap. bend the bumper support back, epoxy up the hood and belly pan. weld up the heat exchanger. sell next fall and get that 700 youve been wanting.
