I put new pistons and rings with new gaskets on my 04 viper. I put everything back together and torqued it down and fired it up. Coolant is getting into the cylinder closest to the pull starter and making it backfire. How would it be getting in there? I didn't have any problems with it before rebuilding it. The engine has 5k miles on it. Thanks in advance!

I put a brand new headgasket on it. 3 metal gaskets riveted together. I don't think I put it on wrong.

Did you torque the bolts to the correct torque and pattern?

Spit balling ideas here. Was everything stock before? (previous owner do something hankey and you putting it together right caused a leak?) How did it come apart? As in nuts came off like the are supposed to or nut and stud came out together? I have heard of seized up studs that come out stubbornly causing leakage when put back together.
