2000 SX700R, Reed Spacers, 2 layers of headgasket removed, camo 9892 with 96 studs, Stock primary and secondary spring, added 4.5gr rivets inner sled is good off the line but the RPM run up to 9000 during acceleration.
Will the 51/43 helix fix this or is there still problems. What about gearing?
Checked center to center and is right on, belt hight on secondary is within spec could not check offset as I dont have tool.
What would be ny next step to get to my target RPM of 8500.

I have clutched a lot of those sx-r,s like that & everyone has run 8500 after even the rivet change. Check to see is secondary bushing is toast & if it is not opening all the way or maybe primary spring is coil binding. It should hit 8500. How is top speed?

Hi Turk,

The buchings in the the clutches were replaced towards the end of the season last year. Only put about 250 miles on the new bushings. Never had a chance to try top speed. I was only on the trail.
Is there anything else I should check. What should the secondary by wraped for and could that cause a over rev. There are two shims ont the secondary. The rollers on the primary were also replaces at the time of bushings. The fixed sheave was also replaced on the primary last year and the primary spring is new 0 miles on it. What other test or check can I do.
Thanks.

What size rivet do you have on the weights outer hole? Based on Turks recommendations, you should have at least 3.1 grams. I use 3.9gr. and run 8300-8500 rpm depending on weather.

Stock weight in tip is 3.6gr, what I ment to type above, not 3.9.
I do run the 51/43 helix and find that set up works very good.

Dont get me worng guys I totally trust Turks set up. I am just lost as to what is wrong with mine. What should I check, what to look for and how to test.

I would find a way to check the offset on your clutches and check the center to center again. Free fix if that is the problem. Next, if that isn't the cure, add 4.5g rivets to the tips. Cost about $3.00 . Helix is around $100 and weights about $75. It has all been said above, make sure everything is clean and moving properly, then start with the least expensive and move on up. Primary should set your RPM's.
One test you can try is running a magic marker line up the side of both clutches. Run the machine up to top speed and then check to see where the marker lines are missing. This will indicate where the belt is riding in the clutches.
