Hi everyone,
I have a brand new original part # 8DN Yamaha belt ready to be used on my 2000 SRX, and I have some questions. It seems people keep mentioning that a new belt must be washed? I have never heard of that step before, nor have I ever done it. Why is it necessary? What are the proper steps to washing a belt? Is this something that is done with common dish detergent? I assume that it should simply air dried? Should you scrub the entire belt?

Thank you,
Zack

Just wash with soapy water and a cloth. A new belt has some oil residues from the manufacturing process that can cause premature wear or damage due to slippage/heat.

In the fall when we are prepping all of our sleds. I always install new belts on each machine, take the used and keep it for a spare. Dispose of the old spare. As for washing, I put all 4 new belts in the top rack of our dish washing machine. Set on regular wash NO heat dry. This does an awsome job of cleaning the residue and is easy to do as well. Al

Just need to scrub the surfaces that mate with the clutch. Typically belts are sprayed with a pre-cure prior to curing in a press. It helps prevent sticking to the mold during the curing process. Consequently, residue left on the belt does the same thing it's supposed to do when on your clutches......it prevents the belt from sticking to it.

also, with all new belts and the procedure posted above, give your clutch faces a lite scuffing with a dish pan pad. you should be good after that. 3:16 (yammie tony)
