How can I determine what needle I am running? Is their a simple method or do you have to measure the taper at a given length on the needle?

There are normally identifying marks on them. Have to take them out to see.

the first number is the series needle, or overall length, the 2nd and sometimes 3rd numbers/letters being taper, and last is revision which states how far up the taper begins.

Hey black bear, if your working on your pre 91 Exciters you should have a 6FL68 needle and a 166 P-6 needle jet if your running stock a pipe.
