started on my summer project sled. cleaned carbs and powervalves and put back together. started it up and let it run for a minute. I checked the brake light and high and low beam switch to see if everthing works. I noticed my tach went to 0 when I switched over from high to low. had this issue before on my viper and checked for rub throughs and found nothing. it was my stator. I unhooked both headlight bulbs and issue gone. also notice when I start sled coolant light only flashes twice, I don't think its getting enough power to show me 3 flashes. im leaning towards weak stator because of past experience but any other help would be great

same issue on my 2000 srx years ago. i still have this sled and bought it new. check your harness. that coolant line that lies on top of harness is a bad spot. 3:16 (yamnmie tony)

If you end up needing a stator let me know. I have a good used one

i have the same thing on my 2001 sxr, almost the same ignition system as the viper. it will only do it once though, and that is when its very cold out and at low rpm when i do it for the first time of the day, then its fine. i think its just a condenser, im testing mine atm. either way is it really a big deal?

I converted my 98 SRX over to 00 electronics and am having the exact same issues, only 2 flashes on start up and the tach flicker to 0 when I switch from high to low beam or vice versa, although some times I've noticed the tach flicker will only happen once after the engine has been started but once in a while it happens multiple times.By this I mean every time the engine is stopped and then re started it will do it but most times only once.At first I though this was a condenser/capacitor issue but I changed both of them and it still did it so I guess my next step is to ohm out the stator and check the wiring harness for any rub throughs.started on my summer project sled. cleaned carbs and powervalves and put back together. started it up and let it run for a minute. Regarding the temp light flash at start,up if you let the engine start up then hit the kill switch but pull it back up before the engine dies completely you should notice the 3 flashes of the temp light.I tried this at the suggestion of someone on here and it worked.
