I just grabbed up a 2004 Venture 700 that only has 5600 Kms on it. Unfortunately, it's been sitting outside for a little more than a year. I got it to start. It'll run good with the choke on, then goes terribly lean once the choke is off. I'll be hauling the carbs off and I'm expecting to see the pilot jets nearly clogged solid. I did a compression test. 125 psi on the pull cord side and the middle cylinder, but 115 psi on the clutch side. That has me wantin to tear into the top end. I'll also clean and inspect the power valves while I'm in there.

The back suspension doesn't want to return up after it's compressed. I had this problem on my last redhead triple. I put a new rear shock ( the bigger one)on it, and it wasn't much better. I'm sure some grease in all the bushing and crevices will help it out.

The clutch rollers roll good and everything else seems to be tight as far as I can tell. It looks rough though from sitting outside ( rusty, dirty, etc). The hood has some cracks in it from the previous owner, but I have a viper hood on the way that should work fine.

So, what did I miss? Anything in particular that u guys think that I should have a look at? Thanx.

that has the same motor as the viper, all 3 cyls shouldnt have the same compression, pto side should be lower. I'd clean carbs and pv's but I would worry about tearing into the motor.

X2, basically what you have is a two up Viper. The Ventures only came with the power valved Viper motor for a couple years. The rest had the red head triple. You might find info easier about the power train looking up Viper instead, most folks automatically think red head when the hear Venture.
