Anyone move up to a 136" skid in a SXR600?

most just added rail extensions and tunnel extension. seen quite a few sxr's, srx's and vipers do this mod. I have personally done it to an 01 sx500r and a 2002 sx viper.
tracks usa, Hartman and muffin works can supply all the aluminum rail and tunnel extension parts. tracks usa can also get you a track with it as well.

His has rail extensions yes. Note his skid also has drop brackets. Il try and link you to his build or another good extension build

http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/...-vipers-go-144-quot/page9?highlight=extension lengthy but a very good build to work off of. Rail extensions are basically bolt on and allows you to keep stock suspension and rails.

Thanks Devin. So to go from 121" to 136" is there anything else I need other than rail, tunnel extensions and a new track? I've seen talk about a smaller drive wheel or something? Is that necessary and where is it located if it is needed?
Is this a tough job for someone who has never done it b4?

There is a few "build" threads, one of my favorites is "Pair of Vipers go 144" by Super1c. Smaller drive wheel I assume to be a lower gear ratio in chain case (could be higher or lower number of teeth on gears, depends on drive gear or driven gear) If you go to a taller lug track some guys go to a 8 tooth drive shaft (which lowers gear ratio) turning more track with same drive line it would be doggy at take off, like taking of in second gear. Rail extension a lot easier than going to a full on skid swap. Most guys doing the full on skid swap is to upgrade to an after market skid or a newer mono-shock set up. Full on skid swap can get tricky, geometry of suspension and you will most likely have to make some sort of basketry and drill new holes in tunnel.

do not forget you will need mountain max hoses for the rear cooling tube/cooler as it moves back into the tunnel extension. an 1-1/4" track will fit in if trimmed to fit around the cooler protectors with the stock 9 tooth drivers. more lug than that you would probably have to go 8 tooth driver or if studding an 1-1/4" track.
the 1st time I did it, it took my brother and I about 4 hrs to do it on his viper including the tunnel extension. as we used a mountain viper tunnel extension, we did some custom fitting for the rear hose covers and attaching the bumper at a later time.
2nd time only took me 4 hrs total as my brother did his own tunnel extension on the sx500r.
these times do not include additional repairs such as w arm, bushings, wheels/bearings or hyfax witch should be inspected while the skid is out.
I do recommend buying or renting a hydraulic air riveter for putting the tunnel extension on as it is quite a few rivits.

What would I gain by going from 121" to 128"?

about 3" more track on the ground. So honestly you wont gain much at all.

your also going to have to change your clutching and gearing by alot your going to have to gear way down and tighten your secondary and get a different helix too

For what? Going down a tooth on gearing will make up for a few more inches of track if needed at all.

x2. I went from 121 to 144 on both vipers and didnt change a thing. No changes in performance at all.
