Bought an 01 srx 700 last winter and wasn't real impressed, considering its suppose to be the fastest year of the srx. The past two winters before last one I had a 98 srx and it just seemed like a rocket and wanted to tear your arms out of socket compared to the 01. I ride with buddies that all have the zrt 800s and a few ski doo 800s. Looking to pull out front this year and keep on pulling away. What do you all do to really get these srx's movin?

Porting it will certainly give you a little edge. How is it clutched right now?If your 98 felt like it was that strong compared to the 01 I'd say someone has played with the clutch components and never got it dialed in.I know with my 01 vs my 98 it is definitely stronger,of course it's ported and the carbs are bored too so it's not exactly apples to apples comparison either.

The biggest gain bar none in a srx is the clutching and gearing. Buy some heel clicker clutch weights, the right aftermarket helix and gear it for the distance you ride 90% of the time and youll be happy. Once you have all that where you want it and you still need more power then porting is your next step. Most 800's wont be able to handle a srx thats dialed in on the lake.

Most guys never use the full potential of the engine stock, let alone modded.

possibley can be worn out. check powervalves, check carbs, check springs in primary and secondary, gearing, compression etc. thats a myth about the 01 being the fastest. you just posted your 98 was faster. jeff posted '' setup , setup, setup. maintenance first. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Look at traction as well. Usually first one out of the hole is hard to catch if it's a good running machine. Agreed with above. Maintenance is a key factor with SRX's.
