First time poster sorry if this has been brought up but I searched a bit and couldn't find anything.
I have a 99 vmax sx 700 triple I really dislike the headlight. Its dark and don't like the fact that its a single lamp. Is there any way to make it a dual or more and or convert to a brighter bulb?

I also have a 97 with the single bulb. Mines bright enough but yes not anything like a new sled. There's no HIDs or LEDs or projector beam in a nearly 20yr old sled. You can put the dual lamp from the newer srx if you have the hood and all that I've heard of.

I researched this quite extensively last season and have been stewing on it ever since. You have a few different options depending on how far you want to get into it, and how much money you want to through at it. Should be a few threads you can dig up if you search around. Musselmans sx and srx build threads along with his hid conversion threads are the first that come to mind. To summerise however; you can swap to the dual bulb headlight found on the later model sxr and srx sleds with your stock stator and run two 35watt bulbs... you need the gauge pod, headlight, windshield and upper harness and newer style gauges if your sled doesn't already have them. To do the same conversion with the brighter 70 watt bulbs or whatever come stock, you will need everything listed already plus the entire harness, newer flywheel/stator and have the pickup coil welded in your case. Additionally you can do the first dual bulb conversion with you're existing stock stator with hid bulbs, but you will need everything first listed with the addition of a hid conversion kit plus a battery to fire the Ballest. I've done some reaserching on batteryless hid, because I'm not interested in adding a battery but not really enough to make heads or tails of it. There is a company that puts kits together but they start at about $400 which is a little out of my budget. I'm most likely doing the swap this season to at least the dual 35 watt setup and have everything but the gauge pod...

Wow thanks for all the info very good research. I'll probably do the dual 35 watt setup and look into brighter halogen headlights. It could just be the bulb is going bad but I couldn't see but maybe 30 foot in front and just didn't feel good to ride like that even in an open field. I'm not 100% if I have the newer gauge pod or not this is my first sled. And yes 400$ is way to far out of my budget too and don't care to fix up a way to keep a battery charged etc.

But very good info thanks a lot!

this is a good option as it does not need a battery on the sled to work. ran one in my bike all summer as well and it does make a big difference. he only sells it in a 2 bulb kit.

x2 on these led's. They are awesome. I do know a HID kit will not work in the older single bulb sleds, the old ignition system just cant support the power needed. Must be the newer 300 watt ignition system.

So that's an LED from what I read right? Was a huge difference and my light is better then his halogen but I still don't like it. Good find for people that don't have batteries and don't want one!

Huh...both of those led options look interesting... I'm curious to see how that eBay job will perform. I love the idea of lesser power draw with led's. All you need for the updated gauges is the gauge pod, the upper harness that goes to the pod and the gauges themselves. That is the setup that I'm currently running on my 97sx and it's worked out well. Can't remember off the top of my head what year gauge pod you need to look for (single headlight round gauges)...guessing maybe 00? All I know is those big round gauges are 1000x better than the 97 stockers.

My 99 sx has a single headlight with two big round gauges. I think these are the newer gauges y'all are talking about. They are awesome though!
