I'm trying to remove the spider from my Yamaha clutch. My question is when you have the grunt tool on the clutch do you turn right or left looking from the top down. I had the one part in the back side and the clutch bolt as tight as I could get it. Then placed into the vise. With the grunt tool on the spider it self I tried to turn it as if I was tightening the bolts on the cover. That should be a left handed thread. I could not get it to budge. Before I go and have some one do this for me I would like to get it myself. Any ideas? I did try to heat it and nothing. Thanks guys.

The spider is a left hand thread and one way to ease the removal is to use a propane torch to heat the threads on the end of the spider where it threads into the backing plate to soften the loctite. If you have the backing plate locked into place with the grunt tool on the spider then yes turn it clockwise as if you were to tighten an normal thread, this will loosen the spider. It is really tight so don't be expecting it to give without a fight.

Found my problem. The back of the clutch was not held at all. Made up a tool to hold the backside and used the grunt tool on the spider side. Came right off with out heat. Now I just have to rebuild the darn thing and should be like new. Parts on the way.
