My wife has a '97 500 XTC that has the original steel skis with plastic skins. I want to upgrade it with composite skis and would appreciate some suggestions. Should I consider skis from a newer Yamaha model? What would fit? Should I look at aftermarket skis? She's a "slow & steady wins the race" type but seems to constantly fight darting. I've tried to correct the situation by lessening ski pressure but it hasn't helped much.

there is a set of rx skis on here fro sale. they are a great upgrade for the sled. you will need a longer bolt and may need to adjust your suspension once they are on but are far better than what is on it.

I hear the dual runners are good to stop darting, like the skidoo skis or the simons flexi skis. I never tried them, darting doesn't bother me much

I solved the darting problem on my '00 SX700-R with a pair of 6" Woody's Doolies. Works great, tracks straight no matter what. I don't want to spend $100.00+ for carbids and put them on steel skis. I'll look into the suggestions all of you have offered so far. Great site!

I tried to get the dual runners for the stock steel skis. I could not find dual runner carbides by any manufacturer for the stock steel skis on my 600 XTC. I just bought some used USI PS201 skis off this board that have decent carbides on them. Going to instal them tonight... if they still dart, I'll be getting dual runners for sure.

See my post from last night. (USI –SPX skis on an RX-1) if USI SPXs work that good on an RX-1, I would think they would work super good on your wife’s 500 XTC. see them at: www.usi-skis.com

I picked up a set of Arctic Crap skis last year for 100 bucks for the pair, they got rid of the darting on my 500 xtc.

I have to think almost any plastic skis would be better than the stocker steel skis
