On an '01 SRX can the power valve reach, and be hit, by the piston or is there some type of mechanical stop, other than the cable, that keeps it from going that far? Check out the pics on TY.net (not sure if I can post pics on here) and let me know what you think.

can a power valve reach a piston
To BIGMAX
No your power valve can not touch the piston
There is a stop inside the exaust port witch the valve rests on

I had 2 out of 3 cables pull through the ends of the exhaust valves when I checked my sled at the end of the season, but they cannot fall into the piston. They bottom out against a stop. My guess, is that maybe something got into your motor, made it almost all the way through, but got tagged on the way out, thus the damage. Since you get some popping or backfiring, you probably should take the cylinder off and check it and the piston. Maybe a crack in the piston skirt let a small piece loose, and wanted out. Take your pipe and silencer off and shake it to see if something comes out. My brother bought a low milage 600 xtc, rode it, and then wrecked a cylinder. He shook the pipe, and out came a little cinder that resembled the tip of the spark plug. His plug looked fine, but in the back of the sled, he found a plug missing the tip! The old owner got lucky, my brother didn't.
