Mountain Max Steering Column Problems

Last season, I bent two stock Mountain Max steering columns. Finding the part is easy, but replacing it is a total hassle. Does anyone have any tricks to make the column stronger? I wish I could find a chro-mo aftermarket one, but those are not easy to find any more. Thanks in advance for any help.

used to have a shaft you would hammer into the stock cloumn to stiffen it where they like to break/bend. seems to have discontinued it but he does make the cho-mo shaft for it.
