So I'm assembling the engine on my 80 SRX, I have oem yamaha single ring Pistons, new oem rings and fresh nik'd cylinders. I checked the installed end gap and it's at .011in and specified in my factory manual is 0.014in min and 0.022in max. What should I do? This is the first SRX I've restored. Appreciate the help.

.011? Take fine a file and put it in a vise, then take the ring and close the end gap on the file, and gently take off some ring.

Okay I wasn't sure if if was frowned upon to file end gap on sleds never had to before. Just wanted to ask before I assembled the whole thing and score everything all up. I appreciate it !

just make sure there are no burs on the cylinder side of the ring that you file... do it lightly to avoid this and you should be good.

I would check your piston to cylinder wall clearance as well!

Okay sounds good I will ! They fit pretty nice in there. I actually had them Teflon coated at US Chrome so I need to fit/scotch areas on them anyways.
