I just bought new belts for both my 02 Srx & 98 VMax. I have heard that soaking new belts and scuffing the outside edges of them will make them last longer???? Anyone heard anything like this or tried it before.

When you buy a belt, wash it with warm soapy water to get the release agent they use when they come out of the moulds. The will be noticeably tackier when touched by hand. It will make them last longer and run more efficient. Also clean your clutch sheaves with brake clean and scuff them.
What's the best way to skuff them. The sheaves

dish soap is usually fine. i threw the last bunch into the dishwasher and ran a cycle. i have also just scuffed the sides with a knife or a file to get most of the compound off.

I use dish soap with a wire brush that's the size of a tooth brush. Kitchen sink, very warm water.
