Just purchase an 04 Viper last week from the original owner. Sled is in good shape with only a few minor issues. This is my first 700 Triple but certainly not my first sled. I had an 08 Apex which I stupidly sold and went to Cat for 2 seasons on an XF1100 Turbo. Sold that after too much trouble in the second season. Was not planning to get back on a sled because of the limited time and not so great snow conditions here on the east coast of Newfoundland. But the draw of the sweet sound of the triple got me. The sled has 11000KM (7000 miles). It has a MPI 144 inch track kit installed and Bender clutching. All was done by the local dealer. Sled runs great and the original belt was only replaced two years ago and is still good for a spare. Based on that I figure the clutches are working good. It has all original exhaust on it. I need to replace a berring on the middle rear wheel and maybe one other on the skid. What should I be looking for on this sled form a maintenance perspective? It seems to have been well taken care of.
I would just look over the track for any damage, grease sled, make sure carbs are clean, you could do a compression check as well.

Thanks. Done all that and it seems fine. Haven't taken the carbs apart but the sled runs nice and crisp.

Keep Sta-Bil Marine Formula in the tank. Keeps em clean and prevents fuel related issues (ethanol wise). Just preventative measures.
Great sled... I still ride my older Viper

If it were mine I'd pull both the jackshaft and speedo bearing off, check and re-pack.
