Hey guys very new to the sled world. Figured Id give it a shot... So I picked up a 90 exciter running. alls good except bars are broken. This may be a stupid question but whats all in it to changing bars?
I would like to put risers on, delete windshield and gauges and install some sort of light kit. Also I noticed the other day when I went to start the sled the battery was not connected. So there was two red cables
and one ground. Soon as I connected both positive cables the sled started right up!! Am I missing something or is one of these positive cables supposed to go to a relay of some sort? Anything would help
Thanks a head of time

Joe

Changing the bars isnt a big job if you have done it before. There is alot of little stuff to remove or loosen. Take your time and look at the situation and you will be fine. The handle bar cover needs to come off first. No rocket science there, but most likely two screws that will bring out four letter words. Those being the center plastic bar cover screw, and the gauge pod cover screw. These will most likely be rusted tight unless you have a well cared for sled. The cover will come off if you have the other four screws out by wiggling the cover it will oval out the hole enough to slide the screw head through. Use a vise grips and penetrating lube on the screw once the cover is removed.
The gauge pod cover screw will need the head drilled off if using the proper screw driver fails.
Dont force anything. You have the throttle, brake and speedo cables, the main wiring harness, and maybe something else that im for getting that may get in the way of removal.
As far as you elec start, The battery wire should be connected to the soloniod (which should be mounted to the battery tray) and the out to the starter. There should be a smaller red wire coming from the wiring harness and I think a white?? that is connected to the soloniod or retifier which is mounted on the battery tray as well. Hope this helps.

Yup, removing the bars was more work than removing the entire engine. I'm glad I was alone when I did that part because I was cursing up a storm.
