Hello!!

I'm in PA and picked up my first ever sled, a 1987 Yamaha Phazer for $150. Bought it on a whim hoping to get it (and a 1988 Polaris Sprint) running for my families Christmas "family" gift this year. My daughter saw a bunch of them last year and she was over the moon for the idea of having one. We have wheelers and horses, so sleds will be a nice winter toy addition = )

Anyway! The kid we got them from had like 17 sleds and he was downsizing and these two were two of the nicer ones he had that still needed work. One of the carbs on the Phazer had the plunger caps screw busted off inside the casing, the throttle cable was broken, the air box needs new rubber joints as the mice got after them, and the seat is ripped to shreds. Everything else looks pretty good. The engine is not seized, it turns over, not too much rust, all the mechanics on everything look good.

Not worried about the seat, that is easy, the throttle cable was easy and I got the carb cap screw replaced and the carbs taken apart and cleaned. So everything is back together and I go to try to start her up and I'm getting no spark. Message the kid and he warns me about the two little wires that come off the carb. I'll check them out tomorrow, but it is eating away at my curiosity. What are these two little wires?!?!? I have talked to several people and no one I've talked to have ever heard of wires on a carburetor prohibiting spark?

Any other tips before I try to start her up again would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

that is most likely for tors = throttle override system. it is so that if the throttle sticks open it kills/limits the power so that you can get it shut down more safely. have you tried bypassing the ignition or kill switch? one of those might be the problem.

I looked all over and couldn't find a kill switch on it. Any tips on where it is? This is my first sled EVER. I know enough to get in trouble. Lots of experience with wheeler, vehicles, and farm equipment, but no sleds....yet = ) So any advice is greatly appreciated!!

kill switch is usually mounted on the throttle block on the right. it should be a square button and it has to be in the up position to get spark/run. the wires on the carbs can be just plugged together for testing purposes. ignition must be on of course. on how to bypass kill or ignition, pls pm me as i do not like putting that info out on a public forumn.

I will hopefully get some time to play with them tomorrow and will take all the info here and put it to good use!

I think I have to take the carb back apart because I put the plugs in the wrong spots. I think I put them in the center and right tubes when they should have went in the center and left tubes.......any advice there?
