Not really sure how old the belt on my 600 is. Should I replace it and then wind it out again to see if it lowers my top speed rpm?? I saw 8500 at one point this past weekend... and 8000 many times.
Are the OEM belts the way to go???

Yes it can cause an over-rev. Try a new belt before touching the clutches. Stock belts hold up about the best.

Kinda what I was thinking. Is there a way to tell visually if a belt is on it's way out?

You can use a caliper and measure the belt and compare it to the specs.
