First off this is my first post, I figured all the information that has helped me out on here that its time to give back so here is a little mod i just did to keep myself busy in the off season.
Those fake forced air intake vents always bugged me and I thought it was time to make them function now that I have extra time on my hands.
I decided to only do one side to see how it works out when it snows and i know before and after pics are opposite sides. I forgot to take before pics. Once you get the vent plug out you can start to cut at it with a utility knife. I was surprised how easy it cut.
I got a little crazy and broke a corner, nothing some crazy glue can't fix
I went on a search for a fabric to use for the filter/screen to block out fine powder. I do mostly boondocking so its important. I ended up getting tulle (pretty lame I know) from hobby lobby and figured I'll use layers but I'm sure some of you guys have some better materials in mind and I'd like to hear your suggestions.
I decided 4 layers was the way I wanted to go (a material that would only require 1 layer would've been easier to use). I put some hot glue on the corners to hold the layers together to make it easier to work with.
Put the vent face down on the fabric and start gluing a side and wrap fabric over glue and keep squeezing glue through fabric to get it to stick good.
Wrap fabric around the other side and continue gluing and trim while you work.

did a nice job but you wont get the full effect as your missing the duct that turns down. To make it the same as a viper youd need the 2 ducts that go in place of the block offs is all. I might have a extra set if you want them.

Thanks man, I knew I wouldn't get the full effect but figure it would still help out. If you have an account extra set though I would be very interested.

Interesting DIY. By doing this mod, effectively your raising the pressure within the airbox? Stock gains are suppose to be around 2-3 hp. Will there be any gains with this? Also, since the stock inner ducts are a certain size ie: smaller than your inlet size, are you back to stock configuration? Just wondering. BTW, nice job with the screening.

Thanks man, I'm hoping to have some gains with airflow. The stock setup had the air intake pretty choked off, never had an issue but I figured I'd experiment with it. BTW my sled is a venom and now I think the air ducts vary on venoms/vipers/mnt vipers
A couple of bucks

May be the reason the Venom only gets 10MPG and has a wet airbox.?
