hello i have a 1987 yamaha bravo and im trying to get the track drive shaft out but theres a ring in the chaincase behind the lower sprocket that simply wont come off!! i have no idea how to get it off. im afraid to try heat because it might ruin the bearing! heres a pic of whats happening! hope you guys can help!! thanks!

That should just slide right off. Try getting a really thin flathead screwdriver in behind it to pry it out.

yup it should slide right off. the top one does...i can push that shaft right back so the ring isnt even near the bearing, but seems like it doesnt want to come off at all!

It's probly never been apart before either, maybe spray some lubricant in the grooves or take a piece of wood and place over the end of the shaft and hit with a hammer.

yes i tried hitting it with a hammer but its a small sled and you only have about 4 or 5 inches between the wall of the sled and the shaft so you cant get a good swing at it! i hate it when little things like this end up getting in your way!

Check for burs or any gunk or metal shavings built up around it...

you could heat it and then try to pry it off. i would use a brazing tip.
