Has anyone ever changed their gear ratio in a 94 vmax 500 dx? What number of teeth did you use and what length chain? I'm running the stock gears, believe its 20-39? I'm only getting up to 120 km/h (65 mp/h). I want to get more top end speed out of my sled. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i would go through the sled and check and replace bearings 1st in the skid and drive train. if it does not roll smoothly by hand, it is bad. then you should go through the clutches and check for worn parts. then try a new belt. with everything moving as it should, that sled should hit at least 80mph or better but any little added friction will kill your top speed.

Yes that's all done. I'm using an m10 suspension skid with all new parts. Bearings roll nice. I have a brand new Yamaha belt. Clutch had some stuff replaced in it. That's why I'm thinking gear ratio. I know other people have changed their ratios on these models of sleds before. I'm just looking for someone who did it already to ask them what number of teeth they used and what length of chain.

Make sure your primary is shifting out to at least 1/2 an inch from top by marking it with marker before changing gearing for more top end. I am suspecting that it may not be close to full shift out so gearing change would not help.

you might need a new primary as the yamaha twins where hard on them. even with replacing parts they remain bound up for some reason.
