Just picked up a 1984 Phazer with 1800 miles on it. It is for my 10 year old son to learn on. I plan on a father son project. He keeps pushing me to take him on our trips to the UP but I think he has to be 12 to ride on the trails so that gives him 2 years to take the Safety Course, learn the sled, what a clutch is...etc, etc. I'm also going to have him create a user name here so that he can learn what a huge resource this site is.
What I need is "how to's" for this thing. Carb cleaning, brake adjustment, suspension settings. Does anyone have a live link to an online Yamaha service model. Thanks in advance.

i am doing an 84 right now. picked it up years ago engineless with 787 original miles. sold parts off it over the years and now wish o didnt.
my kids decided we needed another project so we are putting it back together by building things out of 20 years of leftover phazer parts. a few parts swaps on lower ends and we now have an engine. at last inventory i am missing a few windshield brackets. just going to use it for dragging sleds up to the top of the hill and a companion for the 121 enticer.
if you dont find what your looking for while perusing the forums, let me know. biggest overlooked portion on the carb cleaning is the small orifice on the intake side. its easily plugged and often overlooked. next is the rubber plugs over the pilot tubes. these become hard and brittle and wont seal correctly, or have been improperly placed. if you find yours seem to be lacking in pliability, replace them. about $5 each x 4.
