carbs full of oil?!?!!?

my carbs were full of oil on my sxr 700 after sitting with the fuel system drain over the summer. why would this be?

No no, it was full of injection oil.... Happened 2 years in a row now. I drain and clean the carbs in the spring so come winter I can just turn the key and go.

Guessing you didn't drain the oil system.....or at least on purpose. This has happened to more than a few guys. Never happened to me. Seems like I remember people saying oil pump or check ball let oil pass which flowed to fuel pump then to carbs...have heard of a few that it filled the cylinders too!

Good thought , but it Wouldn't make sense for the check valve. It only stops oil from flowing away from the fuel pump, not into it. Now I've been giving this some thought, and it would make more sense that it's the fuel pump not the oil pump allowing this to happen. Since the oil pump, even at idle, never completely closes, oil could gravity feed through the oil pump. But the fuel pump should stop the flow of oil and fuel when it's not being operated right? This assumption is based on the fact that when I take my fuel lines off to clean carbs my whole tank doesn't siphon out. Does this sound right? Lol

Given all summer some gas may syphon out though. That and keep in mind the route of gas lines versus oil lines. My gas line comes out of tank towards the top, gas has to come up and then back down. Oil comes right out of the bottom of oil tank and is all down hill to the fuel pump. That and oil is much heavier than gas, top of oil tank is what at least 6-8" higher than carbs.

I drain my tank, I guess it's just the fuel pump getting a little old and leaking. Just weird how it happens on my 2000 sxr and not my 2001, stored at the same time and under the same conditions

It happens to some carbs the pressure from hot and cold do it.gravity pressure too.

That's why I fog in the spring then drain my tank & clean my carbs in the fall.

I have same problem with my sons 96 vmax... it fills the bowls of the carbs full thru the summer!

I'm convinced it's a fuel pump getting old and not holding the oil back.

*PROBLEM SOLVED* check valve has lost spring tension in oil line allowing it to gravity feed, check valve has 2 functions in this system, 1. stop flow in wrong direction 2. spring pressure stops gravity feeding. when blowing into valve with my mouth in the direction of flow i could, wheres the new one i could not.

figured i would put and end to this for future people.
