Hello all,
I just wanted to introduce myself as a new viper owner. I've been doing a lot of reading and searching to get most of my questions answered, you guys sure have shared a lot of wisdom here over the years. I live in Alaska and had taken a hiatus from riding for about 10 years. When I got out last time I was riding an 02 Doo and vowed this time getting back into riding I'd go for a much newer chassis sled, but got such a smoking deal on a very nicely modded Viper that I couldnt pass it up....that and I love the sound of triples, somewhat addicting I'd say. Anyway, on to what I know about the sled, I'm still finding more out about it daily as the previous owner didn't really know all that was done to it.

I am not a carb guy and have a lot of learning to do there, so I have yet to dig in and find out how I'm jetted/needled. Also, I am unsure of how this machine is clutched.

02 SXViper
Speedwerx billet head
Aaen triple pipes
RX-1 skid w/ stock Viper rebuildable shocks
Hartman 159" extension
Camoplast Challenger track
Boydsen reeds
8" of riser
Fly handlebars
SRX rear heat exchanger
Apex or Nytro skis, not sure which

Some detail on what I'm doing:
Adding a Boss seat
Replacing broken windshield and cowl parts
Creating custom frogzskin covers for the hood
Added an airbox cover
Adding the billet Yamaha tuning fork wheels
Adding SLP Flow Rite ducts in the dash
Installed a "new" hood
Installed a "new" front bumper
Adding ice scratchers

Maintenance done so far:
Lots and lots of cleaning
Cleaned power valves
Welded a cracked Aaen pipe
Heat wrapped pipes
Drained, cleaned, and re-filled the chaincase
Polished the tunnel
In the process of polishing the rails
Added wire looming to wiring below motor to avoid chaffing
Greased the front end
Installed new hyfaxs

Maintenance to do:
Check clutching
Clean and adjust carbs
Grease skid
Re-install skid after shocks are rebuilt
Adjust power valves
Re-build and Re-valve shocks
Replace springs with heavier springs

I'm going to custom fabricate some snow eliminator boards, similar to the snofree boards in design. I also plan to replace the rear coolant pipe hoses with some braided stainless steel hose and maybe even convert it over to AN fittings.

Hope you guys enjoy watching me work at reviving this sled and investing way more money into it than anybody will ever be willing to pay me for it when I'm done!

Welcome! Great job so far! What a transformation! Question though..... Are you sure that's an SRX cooler? It looks small in the picture.

Thanks!! It's been a lot of work, but very enjoyable. You know what, after doing some research I realized that it's not an SRX cooler, if I recall correctly it is a Mountain Max or a Mountain Viper cooler. I guess I should upgrade to an SRX cooler, or something bigger.

I like how you made the 2 covers both the same size looks great

Agreed! I was wondering if there was a company that made something like this. Should definitely help reduce bogging in deep powder. I may have to look into a set as well. Mind sharing how much that ran you for the custom covers?

I have $46 into the frogzskin, which is a huge amount that they send (36"x61"), I didn't even use 1/4 of all I had to buy. $10 for the Velcro, and then I had the Velcro sewed onto the frogzskin which cost me $30. So with all my leftover frogzskin, I estimate used material and sewing total cost to be about $51. These costs could be cut dramatically if you or somebody else you know can sew.

I'm attempting to get away from the bogging issues. The heat wrap on the pipes should keep temps down and also prevent any snow that does make its way in from cooling the pipes. The airbox cover and slp flow rite vents should keep all my intake air clean and snow free. Then the frogzskin is obviously the first line of defense, should keep most snow from entering. All I have left are the front vents behind the bumper and the small vent on the far side of the hood by the pipes. I'm not even sure that the small vents are worth figuring out how to cover.

This is a srx cooler right here. You would have to mod the back of the tunnel to make it fit.

Yeah, I'm not going to mod my tunnel to make that work. I may track down a flat heat exchanger from another make or brand sled, as long as it's flat and has inlet and outlet on opposite sides.

Got my boss seat in and had to do some fitting of the foam to get the seat to fit against the tank acceptably well.

Put my flow rite vents in.

Also received my new rear heat exchanger.

It runs great! I still need to clean the carbs and check the needles and jetting before the first ride, but that's all I have left to do in the engine bay.

Cleaning and polishing the skid, added the billet wheels, and made a 4th wheel kit.
