I'm running a Bender can on a ported SRX 700, love the sound but looking to reduce the volume a bit, to please the cops. Is there a somewhat quiet and lighter alternative to putting the two-ton stock muffler back on it?

The stocker is the best silencer. Toss it back on. Custom fabrication is your best bet.
A couple of bucks

Can you repack the Bender? Drill some rivets out and repack LOOSELY with muffler packing. It's worth a shot for not a lot of $.

You won't just please the cops, you'll please the land owner that has opened up his land for a public trail to pass through. You'll please the folks that like to ride those public trails. You'll please the little old lady that fuels up at a local pump with 20 sleds buzzing around her and the mother that lives on the trail leading to it.
Yeah, it's heavy - but it works for noise AND performance.
Put Viper shocks and Venture radius/tie rods up front, 1/8" or more negitive (loose) center shock pre-load, middle rear rate and you won't know the difference.
If you ride in Michigan, please put it on. Thanks.
