Hi guys just picked up a 2002 Mountain Max 700 141 track. Looking to make it more powder worthy up here in Utah. I found a skid from a 2008 nytro mtx 153 for a decent price. Anybody put one of these skids on there mountain max? Any weight savings? Would it be better suspension for powder than what I have or should I just put a track extension on it?

Great site!

Thanks,

Matt

Ok thanks Ill have to give him a try.

I just picked up the skid today. Ill post a new thread with some pictures of the progress.

Thats what I was thinking also. I was told that I should just take the old and new skid and line the front rails up , measure the difference and use that number to find the front mount point and then kind of play with the back mount point to see where the suspension travels the best.

Is this how you would go about it?

Ive also seen on some mod sleds that looks like a custom made drop bracket with numerous holes I guess to find the best setting? Do guys just fab these or is there someplace where I could purchase it?

Thanks!

I was almost going to put a nitro skid in my 02 that I stretched to a 151 then ended up going with an ez-ryde instead. The install was super easy. Any donor sled swap you are going to have to get all sorts of measurements from the donor sled you can't just pick up the skid at a swap meet.

lining up two skids side by side is not the best way to go about things. shock condition, spring condition, and settings all factor in and you most likely wont be happy attempting this method. you want the actual dimensions out of the donor sled, period, along with more advise.

those swiss cheese drops your referring to arent available that i am aware of. those holes in them for the life of me i cant see any use for. i think they were a standard bracket drilled to meet other manufacturers dimension. i have an extra set around but doubt they would fit a stock tunnel. i make my own drops from aluminum plate. unlike some, i do add a provisional hole or more just in case but those holes are incremental and keep withing the arc of the suspension, not just random.

i was actually curious as to what track you had selected. you do realize that the 153 track is a 3" pitch and there is just about no way your going to get 3" pitch drivers in the stock tunnel without a drop and roll or extended chaincase. hence the hint in my first post about decisions. you need to stick with a 2.52 pitch track no more than 2" unless you modify elsewhere. 156 or 159 are good choices but rail extensions are limited for the 156, you need to move the 153 skid back a bit more. you can also trim a 155 track and swap drivers to 2.86 pitch if you allow for the setbacks when installing the 153 skid.

as mentioned, lots to think about.

Definately don't just lay them side by side to figure out the mounting. I tried that once and ended up with a lot of extra holes in my tunnel. Get the measurements from a sled similar to the one the skid came out of.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I did find a lot of great information on the site about track pitches and drivers. I found a 156x15x2 track on ebay with a 2.52 pitch. It should be coming in today. Im going to try and mount the skid back a bit to make it fit. Or do you guys think a 153 skid would tighten up a 156 track?

Ill try and get the original measurements off the nytro. If any one on here has them handy let me know!

Thanks for the help.

Call tom hartman and pick his brain. your going to need a tunnel extension anyways and he makes the best.
