on my 2000 SRX, my headlights will burn the three wires that connect to the stator wires red/wh green/wh all white when plugged in at the light socket, but if disconneted it will run fine
the dash lights work, rpm gauge works, speedo works, temp light blinks 3 times on start up!

Well I'm thinking you may have a chaffed wire in the headlight wire harness if everything else is working fine.Or perhaps a winding on the stator is bad or even possibly the regulator.
Follow the harness under the motor to the headlight and you will see its warn thru.
