Is there anyway to tell if an engine was ported without having to tare it down? Would it be noticeable by looking down the plug holes or by pulling the reed cages and looking in there? I have an extra engine here for my srx, just wondering if it had any porting done to it and I really don't want to tare it down right now. Does anyone have pics of what a ported cylinder would look like? Thanks

If the porting was done by one of the big shops they'll usually put markings (letters and numbers) on the cylinders.I have Bender ported cylinders on my 01 SRX and they are stamped with their code to indicate they're ported.

If you look at the roof of the exhaust port where it meets the cylinder wall it will be quite obvious if it was ported. You'd be able to see any porting as it won't match the casting in the rest of the port. Unless it was a well done cheater motor

I shined the probe light down through the plug hole and it looks like the exhaust ports have been polished.

yes I know that, lol. I compared it to a stock cyl that I have here, the stock one is rough textured and this one is very smooth so I guess it's had some porting done to it.
