Guys I found out my voltage regulator was not working on my 2002 srx so i swapped it out, now the system is charging but I noticed the regulator gets warm, almost hot.
Is it normal for the voltage regulator to get warm? I realize it had cooling fins on it and I can still hold it in my hand but it is quite warm.

I know these are higher wattage systems than the 98/99 SRX's but I can't imagine that the regulator should get that warm in normal operation.I'd be checking the wiring harness for rub throughs or chaffs causing cross feeding of the electrical. Are all the systems working properly?Lights, tach etc.

Last year I had a problem where I lost all power and the rpm was limited to 5,000. I inspected the stator after that and noticed the recoil came apart and wrecked the flywheel and stator.
I replaced both and the sled ran fine but the battery was not charging at all and would be dead after 20 mins of riding. I replaced the voltage regulator with one from a viper and now the system is charging at 13.11 V at idle which seems right.
I pulled the harness under the engine last year and put it in conduit, don't remember seeing any issues with it at all.

Also all lights, tach etc are working fine right now.

I have a red head with the 300w system and it gets hot too. That's what a regulator does, when there is excess power it wastes it as heat. Considering you just replaced the stator, I'm guessing it's nice and strong pumping a lot of power, and the regulator is dealing with it.

There ya go.I haven't had much experience with the 300 watt system even though I've owned my 01 for 2 years now I never thought to see how hot the regulator gets. It's something I'll be sure to check this winter though.

I will check my other sleds once I get them started but they have the lower output stator so may not be the same

your other sleds will not be the same as if they are single bulb sleds use ac current where as your dual bulb sled uses dc current so they do not compare.

Yah they are single bulb sleds, figured they wouldn't be the same. Just makes me wonder what made the original regulator fail.
