Guys, I a 1998 SRX 700. I have an issue with RPM which only maxxes out at 8000. Speedo reads 100mph wide open on the lake. I do alot of wide open runs. Oil consumption that I noticed is 1 Gal. per 115 miles Approx. Oil tank is full currently. Seems a bit excessive. It has a bender can and he thinks it was clutched. It doesn't seem right. I see SRX's pulling 120ish on this forum all day long. Need some help figuring this out.

To raise RPM tighten spring in secondary. I talked to junior cuz my SRX was using a lot of oil to, he said something about the oil thing being stuck open or closed. Someone else should know.

Just last week my 98SRX was only going between 7000-8000 RPM's. I was getting bad spark! I installed 3 new plug cap made by NGK and it's been running better then new sence then!

Check to make sure that the oil cable at the adjuster is not pulled out of the sheave. This will give ya lots of oil. Also check that dimension to see if you are in spec. Too much oil may pull the rpm's down a bit. You should be running around 1 qt. for 100 miles, maybe less.

DO NOT tighten the secondary spring to raise rpms, unless you are in a pinch. The reason your rpm's are down is because you said it isn't running right. Get it running right first, then look at clutching. To raise rpms, take weight out of the tips of the cams.
I took off the airbox this past summer and I might of pulled the cable out of the sheave, because when I looked at it it was cocked in the direction towards the handlebars. Adjustment for oil was correct. It must have been wide open in the position that it was. This probably was my oil consumption issue. I am yet to test it.
