What is the difference between a 8EA-85540-00-00 and a 8EK-85540-00-00,, (02 Viper) It seems that the 8EA is only for Yrs 02-03 This came out of an 02 SXR sxr 600 and it is a big 2 plug 16 pin connecter, It seems to be different from the 98-02 one small one big connecters.

Will the Viper one work, or is the timing set up different.

no, they dont interchange the timing curve is way differnt between a vmax engine and a viper engine.

How about one from a 2001 sxr700 part# are different ,do you think it would work or is the 2002-03 sxr year specific ?

is there some reason why you dont want to use the correct part number cdi box?

only because it is not easy to come by, and not really sure if that is the problem.

chances are its not the problem if you have no spark they dont go bad very often, I would check the power coming from the pick up coil with a digital volt meter, thats where most of the issues are, that and a rusty flywheel.

Ok so I took the stator off and brought it into the warm house and checked the Ohms on the pick up + side to W/R and the - side to W/G and got reading from 250-300 and it is suppose to be 189-231, Than checked the three white wires and got reading of .6 on both - to either two top ones and + to the bottom one. , suppose to be .36-.44. So I guess the stator is no good ??

looks like the pick up coil is way off spec but yes, youd need to replace the whole stator as you cant just buy the pick up coil.

What other yr sled stators will fit mine. seems there are a lot of different part #'s for it. 2002 sxr 600

Go onto a Yamaha parts site. Look up the part number of the stator/magneto assembly for your exact yr, and model. Then start checking out different yrs and models. If the part numbers are not the same, they will not work.

I seen your wanted post, you wont need to replace the flywheel they dont go bad, its just the stator assembly that bolts to engine via 3 screws and the pick up coil(which is the problem) but you cant buy the pick up coil by itself it comes as a assembly from yamaha with the stator.

Stay away from the aftermarket units, they dont work good or even at all and youll just be throwing your money away, get a oem yamaha.

add: i went and looked it up, only 1 part number listed for your sled. Any year sxr stator will fit as long as the sled has the dual bulb headlight, which the 700 sxr got in 2001, and the 600sxr didnt get it until 2002 and newer.

A lot of RM stators do not come with the pick up coils. I just installed one last week on a ski don't triple

Thanx guys, I did look up the part # and I found out what work for my sled. I have a stator, flywheel and a set of coils on the way. I hope I have spark after this.
