Im interested in what failures red head(sx sxr vmax 600 or 700 triple) owners have had over the years. if you have had a failure thats not on the poll, feel free to post it. its a multi choice poll btw, so if you have had more than one, vote it.

10,000km= 6213mi

Redhead 700. Stator burnt up near 30k no other engine problems worth listing. bought a 600 redhead last year with 11k. One cylinder blown (unknown cause)

Had my stator go out on my sx700 at about 5000 miles, otherwise no other problems. I bought a 2000 sxr600 last year with a blown piston at about 6500 miles, would have never blown if dumb people would keep their carbs clean! lol

yeah, burn downs and such because of lack of maintenance(dirt carbs etc) don't count. that's just because of neglect.

Well in theory ALL but "Never had a problem" could fall under "lack of maintenance" or "Neglect" (and then wouldn't count either)....or were you only wanting people to vote/post that have owned their sled since new?

anyone can post. and yes they COULD all fall under that, but im talking failures that happened not because of lack of simple maintenance and human error, like keeping carbs clean, keeping it topped with oil and anti freeze, re jetting it wrong etc. more of failures that have happened with age, miles or bad luck, like a rod bearing giving out, a stator burning up or a old crank seal leaking causing a lean burn down.

Was just pointing out the sleds we are talking about are coming up on 20 years old. "Random" or "For no apparent reason" part failures could have ben from lack of maintenance on previous owners part that took 5-10 years to develop such as improper summer storage/rust on bearings etc. Read on here of 97's using a different style of crank bearing, supposedly they go around 5K. My buddy had an 01 SxR 700 that mag crank bearing went out @ 12K. It had every common mod on it and he FLOGGED the wee out of it routinely.....while running Wal*marts Super-tech injection oil (like $10 a gallon) for the last 8K!
