Does anyone have any tricks for removing the pressed in metal insert in the drive shaft that holds the speedo drive? I can't find a tool to pull it out. I have 2 sleds ,sx 500 and sx 700 with this same issue. The speedo drive is snapped off in the shaft and won't come out and I was told the pressed in insert that holds the drive should come out. I can't get the broken speedo or the insert to budge.Grease and pliers isn't doing the trick , Any suggestions??

Drill a small hole in the end of the insert, then screw in a long machine screw nice and tight. Do you have or have access to a slide hammer with a vice grip end? Most auto or engine repair place should let you use one or borrow. Then just attatch vice grips to screw with slide hammer and pound off. Will come out in one or two wacks.

slidehammer only works with the shaft out of the sled and thats the best and easiest way. i have a dedicated tip and screw for my slidehammer just for that purpose.
a self tapping #10 screw can be drilled in there if you have a angle drill. once the screw bites in and bottoms out, you can use a pry bar to pry the connector out. a little heat first helps break things loose.

Do you mean drill into the center of the insert? The broken speedo drive is still in there and doesn't want to let a drill bit in. I wish I could leave the insert in but that broken drive is just mashed right in.

yes, your drilling into the broken cable connector, but with a self drilling screw, not a drill bit. the threads on the screw will eat the cable portion and attach itself to the insert portion. you will have to put a new connector in the end of the driveshaft. only way to fix your problem is to destroy the connector.

Thanks ,I'll try a self tapping screw. I assume I'll wreck the insert in the process. Thanks so much for the info.
