I have a stock 95 v-max 500 and it revs to 8000 rpm at WOT. It feels like its over revving at that rpm. Is this the norm or do I need to back it down a little?

From the service manual 7650 rpm +/- 300
So you are barely over revving if your tach is accurate by the service manual. We have a Vmax 600 and it has the same rpm specs and I have our clutching set so max rpms are 7800. I know what you mean by 8000 rpms sounds like over revving, they just don't sound right at that rpm. And through the years I have always heard don't go over 8000 rpms, because the motors don't like it and then other problems occur.
If you go to my website I have the clutching chart for a 95 Vmax 500 & 600, and you can compare what you have to the factory specifications and then add a little weight to the tip that will bring the rpms down.
