Will 1 3/4 track work with 9 tooth sprockets?

I'm wondering if a 1 3/4 track will work with 9 tooth sprockets? My buddy has a vmax 136 and he don't want to try it unless he know for sure. All I know is you need 8 tooth for 2". Any help will be great thanks

9 t for anything under 1 1/2 8th for 1 3/4 up to 2"
