Last winter the speedometer stopped working on my 01 Venture. The clutch side drive shaft bearing was shot. I replaced the bearing, but was not able to get the broken off piece of speedo drive out of the driveshaft. I was going to take the shaft out to replace the speedo drive connector.
Does anyone know a way I can get it out without removing the driveshaft? I tried screws and a small tap. Also, do I really have to take the chain case out to get the shaft out? I've done this before (mostly cats) but I've never had to remove the chaincase.

you dont have to remove the chaincase, you just need to loosen up the mounting bolts and slide it out a ways to get the room. Remove the upper nut and lower bolt for the gears, remove chain, then remove the mounting bolts. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and lift caliper out of the way, I DONT remove the parking brake cable and pull the whole assembly including the brake disc towards the outside, this will give you the room to get the drive shaft out. Sometimes if the brake rotor is stuck on the jackshft it takes a lil bit of pentrating oil and a couple love taps from a plastic deadblow hammer, and it will then slide towards the outside. Be sure to notice and keep track of the keyway that holds the rotor on the jackshaft.
