Have heard quite a bit of talk regarding guys running the 13 wide SX style gears in their 98-99 SRXs. What can be gained by doing this? I know the SX gears are cheaper, but are there other benefits?

naa, couple hundredths, nothing a trail rider will miss
HYVO vs non
You might want to check with some of the other GURU's on this but I think SX gears are non hyvo and SRX are hyvo. I believe the hyvo gears are a little more efficient and don't tend to allow the chain to "climb" as much under power. Just a thought.

the srx gears are hyvo from 2000-2002 i believe, and before that they were the traditional silent chain type.

HYVO gears/chain are also stronger, and usually last longer too.

'98 and '99 SRX's dont have HYVO anyway, they are just 15 plate instead of 13, thats the only difference.

I ran 700 SX chain and gears in my 00 SRX for a couple of seasons, along with 94 Vmax sliders, bender clutch kit, etc. Acceleration was crazy, but lost out on top end since there were less teeth. I think it was 22/37. I took it out and went back to stock gearing for some more top end this year. The SX gears will benefit a heavy rider imho.
