I've got a 1979 340 exciter I just pulled out of the bush after 3 years. Pulled carb apart cleaned and put 1/2 can of sea foam. It has a primer so starting is 1 pull. It idles good. Problem is it bogs if you throttle hard and won't get over 1/2 throttle without trying to die. I tried to reset everything as close to where itwas when I took it apart. I also mix fuel 20 to 1 fuel/oil, can of octane boost and 1/2 can of sea foam. Any tips on setting carb or possible other problems

replace the primary spring and check the crank seals. weak primary spring will make it bog as it is trying to up-shift too fast for the rpms to hold it. chased one for 2 years on my enticer.

How did you clean the carb? It has to be completely disassembled and all the jets and small holes cleaned out with small wires, drill bits (by hand only) or a torch tip cleaner. The inside of the jets need to be scraped clean.
You have polluted the gasoline.
Forget the fuel additives. There is no need for them, there is only a possibility of causing problems. Yamaha recommends against using anything like that. Why are you mixing oil? If the oil injection has been removed, mix the oil at 50/1, not 20/1, if not do not add any oil.
Make sure the drive belt is in good condition and not worn thin.

well we need more info 79???? they did not make a Exciter 340 in 79 ......they did may a enticer ...plus you need to have the airbox for the butterfly carb to function correctly ......
ex 340 was built 76-78 ...76/77 had the kehnin roundslide carb 78 had the butterfly carb
all enticer 340's had the butterfly carb ...and like I said need the air box to function correctly ....set the air screw at 2 turns from lightly seated .....yes there could be clutch issues but with the butterfly carbs they like to bog with no airbox as they will run lean

From the serial numbers I looked up on motor and frame it's a 1979 et34e. Likely just put in exciter instead of enticer sorry it is the flapper or butterfly style carb not the flunger style I'll try setting that screw to 2 turns that's mostly what I was wondering. As far as I can see there isn't any other adjustable components to this set up. As far as the air box looks I took it off and opened it up to check for mice or crap and was clean but installed it after carb clean. I did the octane boost since I was worried about 85 fuel. And the sea foam to loosen up any junk I missed cleaning. Could clutch problem be eliminated by lifting track off ground and putting it through the paces or removing the belt and trying ????? Thx for the screw settings.

Only oil I can get easily is full synthetic assumed a 1l jug in 20 +- l jerry can wasn't a big deal. Other than the smoke and ageless "perfume" 2 stroke.....1979 as far as I know factory untouched motor little extra couldn't hurt......
