Will installing an extra base gasket and shaving the head 10 thousands on a 600srx give more power or is it a waste of money
I'm no engine guru by any means but this mod works well for the 700 so I would think the 6 would respond well to it. As for HP gains or numbers I couldn't say,but I do know that engine guys say that with planing the heads you should also have the combustion chambers recut.
Id like to know how it all works to I did it on a stock sx 700 peeled base gasket. Left the stock head gaskets in. It now seams to run hotter and has more pull on low end.

Type ... Poor mans , in the search engine. IE poor mans port job.
it can add a little bit of power but nothing like a correct port job will because you will be raising all the ports and adding deck clearance you cant remove. Even with trimming the heads the cylinder will sit higher above the piston at tdc then before. The added deck clearance is not something thats desireable it ruins the way the heads works.
shimming and cutting the heads will add a few but less then 10hp for sure. You get more of the power gain on 98-99 srx 600 and 700 from adding compression, they were lower in those years.
