Alright guys ive gotten a few different stories on the details of making my 02 viper into a long track. In terms of the rear suspension I think ideally I would use a mountain viper skid, in theory it will bolt right in? Ive also been told to run 8 tooth drivers instead of 9 tooth? The only other thought I have is maybe running an m10 if I cant find a mountain viper skid?? Give me some help guys...

You do want to go with the mountain viper skid if you can find one. It won't bolt right in because the mounts are spaced different and you'll need to hunt down the drop brackets for the rear mount. Changing drivers is a must if your putting in a 2" track and if there are tunnel protectors you will most likely need to remove them for clearance. You will also want to change the drive calibration to your altitude for a mountain sled so that means clutching and gearing too. If you want to make it a true mountain sled you will also need to change the radius rods and tie rods and find a set of the shorter 15" viper mtn shocks. The viper mtn also has a different hood with less vents to keep the snow out that you may want to track down. Not impossible but there is a lot to it.

if your just wanting to go with a 136" or did you want to go 144 or bigger? what are you gonna do with the sled?, as if your just wanting to stretch it out for some play in powder but also trail ride nothin wrong with rail extensions and 136 with the stock 9 tooth drivers its a good balance of traction, speed and smoother ride, you can use up to a 1.75 inch lug with 9 tooth drivers(no studs).
if you want a 2 iinch lug or better and spend all your time in the deep stuff then a mtn viper skid would be more usefull with a 144 and 8 tooth drivers.

Not trying to make a mountain sled, I live in Maine and am more looking to build a crossover sled. my main goal is to have a 144" x 1.25" track....I don't wanna go crazy but more something that I can use all around....

mrviper 144 is my goal....not looking to go more then 1.25 or 1.5 on the track....not sure that I really like the viper's suspension...which is why I was thinking m10?

136 is a great handling yet, will go deep on occasion, better ride and you keep your stock skid mounting loctaion, best for what your describing.
just need a track and tunnel extension. with only a 1.25 lug you can keep 9 tooth drivers and then your speedo will still be accurate as when you go 8 tooth it will read fast, and tthen youd need to change gears in chaincase if you want to go over 70mph...lol
8 tooth drivers are not on my up list of items to add they eat up alot of power and speed.

also, when you go with rail extensions and keep stock skid it rides nicer because the rear of rails has a bit more leverage, the pro action can ride nice but its not going to ride nice in 3-4ft moguls, youd need a mono skidframe.
the m10 is ok for going slow, they ride soft, they will slow the sled down alot with thier rail angle and very small wheels-just FYI.

My viper is a 136 and Without good wide powder skis it's a wasted idea. Good in the trail and good hookup but my front end doesn't float good enough to compliment the longer track. Also...8 tooth kind of sucks I agree with mr viper. As soon as I can I will be switching back to 9 tooth and a Skidoo Sc10 renegade skid. Unless you drop the dough on all the parts like backwoods sAid, on all those parts...it won't be right. One missing peice is enough to make it suck...for me it's the skis. Skis are expensive 500 or so for good ones. It's a great trail ripper though.

My MXZ-X originally had a 121 but I extended it to 144 with TracksUSA tipped up rail extentions and put a 144 x 1.25 Camoplast Predator on it. It was still great on the trail and went really well off trail, not a mountain sled but would get you around off trail pretty darn good. That's the simplest way to go if you want more track without getting into a ton of work and lots of money.
That sled has been converted to a full on mountain sled and the skid went in my phazer but I do still have the 144 x 1.25 track which is nearly new with only a few hundred miles on it if you're looking for one.
