Bought some older sleds today and behind this guys house in the woods sat this 440, I knew it was a Yamaha SRX but not sure on the year, I think its a 76 but not sure. The motor is locked tight, but before I start searching for parts I want to be sure of the year. The first 3 digits on the tunnel are 8F2.
Thanks, mark

Thank you guys for the information, I really appreciate it!! I checked the VIN and the number is 8F2-012114, by reading edunn69 post, am I right to say that this is a very early build for that year?

I went to buy a pair of 1987 exciters, one crashed, one with a bad motor just for the parts and a 1994 Vmax 500 with a bad motor and junk track, a steel 2 place trailer and some extra spare parts in a box(which inc. a new camoplast track), then he threw in the 440 (had to drag it out of the woods!) plus a box of parts which included a pair of 440 cylinders, crank cases, CDI, and some other stuff, the whole package I paid 1,000 dollars for everything.

nice.... you got a awesome deal that 77 srx is worth about $2000-2500 the way it sits! restored they bring anywhere from $5000-7000 usually it depends on how nice you make it. Sure looks like you could get pretty nice with it as most of the original parts are all there, thats the hardest thing to do find all the original parts most were removed and discarded like airbox,pipes,etc..
.
good for you... guy did not deserve to have it anyway , treating it like that...I went to buy a pair of 1987 exciters, one crashed, one with a bad motor just for the parts and a 1994 Vmax 500 with a bad motor and junk track, a steel 2 place trailer and some extra spare parts in a box(which inc. a new camoplast track), then he threw in the 440 (had to drag it out of the woods!) plus a box of parts which included a pair of 440 cylinders, crank cases, CDI, and some other stuff, the whole package I paid 1,000 dollars for everything.

Got the steering free tonight and the clutches off, still working on the motor to get it loosened up, this will be a very long project but just after getting the steering loosened up I got all pumped up to keep going! Its amazing how nice of condition this chassis is still in!

The spare parts looked to be better cared for than the sled ...lol .. I am always amazed on how much these sell for and how
many people want them ... I guess I never wanted to go that FAST.
Might have worked ???
Was a clone (?) and still spinning and keeping my arms stretched at 55mph when I went past the radar gun
No ,, didn't work correct to load pic ...
