hello everybody I am in need of some advice... currently I have a stock 2001 srx with the monoshock rear and some other suspension upgrades and I found a guy that lives near me that has an 02 viper that's all blacked out, 780 big bore, case ported, rad valves, venom heads, bender ceramic coated pipes, bender lightweight primary cover, heel clicker clutching, billet wheels, handles, and even front bumper (says its super rare).... and he wants to trade for my sled and about $1300 cash on top of it... seems like a screaming deal... but should I be wary of the 780 or that its been modified so heavily?? any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks

Ya have to ask yourself , " what's the real reason he wants to trade".

keep the SRX and BB it with a kit from Simons
you will bne giving up some reliability having to put wiseco pistons in it though. be sure to warm up properly, especially on a day like this

I'd keep the SRX, just for the reliability side of it, and the fact your SRX will get twice the fuel mileage that a piped Viper gets.

GOOD CALL. I'd imagine that a 780 piped big bore Viper has somewhere in the neighborhood of a 60 mile range with the tank topped off.your SRX will get twice the fuel mileage that a piped Viper gets.
Another vote for keeping the SRX!

Lol. The REAL reason is. I'm looking to buy my son a 4-stroke phazer. Kksrx700. Contacted me and offered the trade. I didn't contact him. I figured the money he offered to boot I could put toward the phazer. Kksrx700 it's not a custom front bumper its a rear bumper. And the person that made them only made about 4.

My 2cents,
I have a 02 SRX with a 780 kit currently and have had two SRX700's in the past. I wouldn't go back to stock for any reason and am currently picking the brains of many people on here to make it faster and "less reliable". You can pick up a stock SRX right now all over for $2500 and add the cash you still less then $4000. Good luck getting a custom viper with all those parts and custom work done that for that price. I look at it like a car, I prefer to modify my cars and make them faster, better looking, and custom knowing I then can lose reliability if not taken care of properly then run a stock muscle car that everyone else has. Again, no disrespect to anyone just my two cents

There are plenty of 780 kits out there with thousands of miles on them with no problems. It's all on how it is unkeep. And jetting and proper warm up. Imo. And they are hard to beat when set up properly. It's all in what a person wants. Srx. Or viper. Stock or big bore. They are both great sleds.

I think I would keep the SRX, They seem to be getting rare and to have one is a great thing. Plus you know everything about your sled unlike the Viper, you might be buying someone else problems. I have a 07 Phazer and I would just save up the money and when you can get one for your son.

I have a hard time passing up on big bore. The only question for me would be who's 780 is it?

I would be tempted to make the swap. Big bores are so much fun. My only hesitation would be based on how you use your sled. If you're a high mile per day guy the piped viper might not be the best choice as the mileage when piped is not real impressive and the big bore will like more fuel too. Got to fed the beast to make hp. Personally given the way I typically ride I would certainly be thinking about it since you are obviously interested in making the swap or we wouldn't all be talking about it

That Viper has a lot of ex$pen$ive part$ and work done to it!
I would suggest he wants your SRX for more then a couple of reasons, one being fuel economy, the other being reliability.
As long as this sled meets your needs and the engine is sound it probably is a bargain.
IMO...with the RPM the Bender exhaust performs at and a BB VIPER I would definitely install a 2001 SRX CDI box for the safer timing curve then jet accordingly.

That does sound like good deal for you, and an impressive parts list on that Viper. But as stated above, for a trail sled, not being able to pass up a gas station will get old.
Tough call, but one only you can make. Good luck, and keep us posted.

decided to keep my srx I trail ride way too much to sacrifice gas mileage and possibly reliability and want to build up my sled onn my own not buy one that everyone else has put together... I was tempted though haha
