Is there a rule of thumb to follow when changing gearing on an SRX, for example drop a tooth on top = +200rpm?

As a rule of thumb Yamaha sleds are over geared from the factory so they will never reach true .75:1 over drive shift out in the clutches. You can black marker stripe your primary and go run it wot down the lake and if you don't wipe all the marker off then you can drop a tooth on top and get more shift out which could possibly lead to more top speed but not rpm. By gearing down the driven clutch will see less load on it so it will allow the sled to shift out more. The primary will only let the engine run at a certain rpm and the secondary will only let the clutches shift out so much to achieve so much track speed. Since the secondary is torque sensing you are lessening the torque it sees by gearing down, and it will shift up more.
