I just got out the 85 ss440 after sitting for 25+ years. I have it running great. The rear suspension was seized up and wouldn't move up or down. I remember this from the last ride 25 yrs ago not having any suspension. Assuming the shocks were shot, I removed the skid, loosened everything up and everything moves great. While I had it out it seemed the rear shock was very good, it seemed to have great resistance and rebound when I tried to compress it. Thinking everything is good now that I loosened everything up, I installed skid. It still sits all the way down and although it can be lifted up, it sinks all the way back down. Will new shocks help this thing or is that just the way this skid is? I will buy two new rear shocks but am afraid it wont fix the problem as these two seem fine. Anyone know of the correct shocks to put in? Also the chain case was empty. I put in new chain case oil, and it all leaks out but I cant see where its coming out of. the seal looks great. Could it be the drive shaft axle seal? I just cant see where its leaking but it leaks out over two days. Thanks.
