I took my 2000 sxR 700 for a rip and then did a compression test. All 3 holes are reading 100 psi. Does this seem low ,or is this normal for this sled? The sled performs well and appears to have no issues.

To me the most important thing is they are even or pretty close. It depends also on how you test it. My hand held tester which I just hold with pressure gave 100psi as well with it warmed up. I didn't open the throttle though (forgot that) and this was after a top end rebuild. I was told it was higher but my tester is 40 years old and not a high quality gauge. So its a relative reading. It certainly nothing to be alarmed about IMO. You could re test it to get optimum readings. It could be the gauge is off as well.

Test when cold, throttle wide open, and pull until guage stops climbing. The harder you pull, the better the reading. Also, no two gauges are exactly the same, and yours could be off.

My 02 mtn max pulled in the 145 range the last time I tested it but that was cold with the motor fogged and wot. The best way to test it truly is a leak down test.

Well ,as long as they read the same ,i should be good for a while. I tested it cold and hot ,throttle wide open, same same results. Want to know what other guys are getting testing they're tripples. Just wondering if its head gasket and piston ring time?

140-145 on mine last time i checked. Brand new tester. Used same one on a good running xc 800 and was getting 130. I would use tester on another sled and see if it reads somewhat low.

Elevation is a factor as well...the higher you go the lower compression will be. X2 3 4 or maybe even the 5th on I would just worry about them being about the same. I had an 00 SxR 700 with a dead center cylinder...was only 2lbs lower than other cylinders BUT held ZERO on leak down test. If I were you I would do a leak down test prior to tearing it apart....in the mean time RIDE IT!

you can do a dry vs wet test to get an idea of how the rings are, if the wet reading is a lot more than dry it may indicate the rings are wore.
