650 Psi Genesis Exciter project
So, last summer I came across an old "racer exciter" as the guy claimed (got him down to $200). I went to take a look at it as it was on craigslist only for a day and it hit me, its an 89 exciter with the PSI 650 kit! So, With a project on hand, I went to work. It started out that I had an 89 electric start from the previous year that I blew trying to put flat slides in (was being stupid). That was the donor sled since I didn't have parts to fix the original chassis. So I disassembled the engine, and went through everything. Crank had bad bearings so I took a donor crank and had it trued and welded. Everything went well. I transferred it all to the donor sled and started cleaning and tuning more. There was plenty to transfer but it's all done now. Getting the twins jetting correctly is the last thing before it's ready to hit a 1000' track. Just want to see what it runs. Had it out today and even jetted extremely rich, hitting only 7500 rpm, at roughly 40 degrees, the speedo still tapped 100 mph on the lake. Slowly working the jets down but only a matter of time and if the weather cooperates. If tips or specs are wanted (from what I've learned so far), I will gladly share.
(after $530 total into it including price of sled)
Here's what it has so far:
650 kit with new pistons/rings, gaskets, and welded/trued crank
2 stable motor mounts to keep motor in place. (front and back)
2 fuel pumps
direct oil injection
twin pipes
108 clomet clutch (EX II belt)
Comet green yellow spring
pink secondary spring
A-2 setting
hydraulic brakes
etgs for exhaust and water temps
18/31 gearing
Bender air kit that I found
144 studs and tunnel protectors
39.5 mm Carbs with this setup
PTO
390 mains
42.5 Pilot Jet
1.5 turns out air screw
R-2 166 Nozzle or Needle Jet
6DJ30 Jet needle in 3rd position
Mag
410 mains
42.5 Pilot Jet
1.5 turns out air screw
R-2 166 Nozzle or Needle Jet
6DJ30 Jet needle in 4th position (so its a tad richer)
In 40 degree weather, average amount of snow, on the lake temps were equal at WOT but were low. I'm guessing 1200 or maybe 1100. It was hard to see the temps correctly at WOT on the lake.
At one point, I was going to sell it but realized it's quite a sleeper. So I improved it. Sorry that there was a lot to say. There was even more, but I summarized it.
A basic before and after. But there are MANY more pics.
