Hello,
My speedo stopped working last year (cable is fine). I remember reading that this could be a sign of upcoming bearing failure on the driveshaft. Since my bearings on the driveshaft and jackshaft have not been changed in at least 6000 miles, I thought I would tackle the job for my first time. I am having some difficulty. After reading several posts, I removed my chaincase with the jackshaft still attached to the chaincase, I did not remove the parking brake assembly. I managed to pull the chaincase of the driveshaft (had a little bit of trouble with the coolant tank in the way) but I do not understand how to seperate the jackshaft, chaincase, and brake rotor. Does the parking brake assembly have to come off? Does the brake rotor come off the jackshaft, if so how?

Also do most people use Yamaha OEM bearings. This is a fair amount of work and I would like the bearings to last another 6000+ miles. Would anyone recommend another bearing supplier.

Is there anything I should be paying special attention to when removing jackshaft and driveshaft for the purpose of bearing replacement?

For bearings, check Royal Distributing. They are in Canada (Ontario), and sell complete bearing kits. The kits are All Balls Bearings. I've had good luck so far.

Just go oem. For the few dollars more it's worth it. I put an aftermarket drive axle bearing into 3 of my sleds and they all spun because of faulty set screws. So I saved 20 dollars on bearings and lost a good 200 in axle shafts and my time.

Dennis Kirk has them. Don't know how good they are. My speedo crapped out last season and bearings are like new. The little link by driveshaft just wore out, no play in bearing. Actually looked like someone cut it shorter for some reason and wouldn't go in far enough.
